Congratulations to Lion on achieving its second Workplace Gender Equality Agency ‘Employer of Choice for Gender Equality’ Citation.
Initially recognised in 2017-18, the company has again received the accolade, which is designed to recognise, encourage and promote an active commitment to achieving gender equality in Australian workplaces.
A company spokesman said: "We’re thrilled to be recognised again as an employer of choice for women by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency in Australia, second year in a row.
"At Lion, we closed our gender pay gap in 2016 and we actively work to keep it closed, all part of our journey to 50:50 gender diversity by 2026. We’re working everyday to keep embedding gender equality into our culture, focusing on everything from how we hire, to fostering inclusivity through our people initiatives across Lion. It’s the right thing to do for our people, customer’s and community."
In addition to its gender balance target, the company has launched a Women at Lion Leadership Program, mainstreamed flexible work across the business, introduced Unconscious Bias training, and publicly supported Marriage Equality in Australia.
"Ensuring we have diverse and inclusive teams is not only the right thing to do, it also increases diversity of thinking," the company said. "This helps us grow as a business, while positively shaping our culture."
James Brindley talks diversity at Lion
Following a Leadership Summit for The Drinks Association’s Diversity & Inclusion Council last year, industry leaders including Lion Beer MD James Brindley have joined together to give their views on shifting the dial. Senior executives are showing their support for a more inclusive drinks community via a series of YouTube videos.
The purpose of The Drinks Association is to make a positive difference to the industry, by being a dynamic, vibrant and collaborative partner for members and strengthening the brand proposition of the industry in Australia and beyond.
Within this purpose, the Association has developed three ‘Promises’ for members. We INFORM our members by identifying needs and coordinating industry’s ready access to valuable, current and trusted data and information. We CONNECT our industry through the creation of events and initiatives that engage our community and strengthen meaningful, valuable networks. And finally we STRENGTHEN our industry through initiatives that establish the drinks industry as a destination of choice that attracts and retains diverse industry talent.
The D&I Council is a priority for The Drinks Association in supporting those pillars, with the Leadership Summit a milestone event for the industry.
