The Women in drinks Victorian chapter held a successful networking drinks event this week at AHA House with special guest Lisa Saunders, GM of Marketing at Schweppes.
Organised in response to feedback from members, the insightful and informative evening featured tips and tricks for fine tuning networking skills and growing your professional drinks industry network.
The sold-out event saw Saunders tell people networking is less about luck and more about effort. She gave examples of how her professional networks helped her move roles, and how personal networks are helping with her parenting and even her house renovations!
Lisa then challenged the group to move around the room and make at least two new contacts worthy of adding to LinkedIn.
"Then the networking began and it was actually a lot of fun!" said WID Victoria Chair Angela Burgum. "Lisa set up the event perfectly. There was a real vibe in the room that this was more than simply catching-up with people.
"I met the CEO MD of On Tap data, who is helping me fix a few data issues later today! Then I met two women from sales at Bacardi and we shared a few common challenges of being a woman in the drinks industry. We connected on LinkedIn and are hoping to catch up again next year. A highlight was learning from my new Bacardi friends that I can use rum instead of vodka in my espresso martinis - who would have thought?"
The event closed with Burgum telling the audience that nearly 300 people from more 30 different companies have attended a Victorian chapter event in the last 12 months. “The Victorian Chapter Committee are a small but passionate volunteer army who have worked so hard to make these events possible," she said. "A big thank you goes out to Alana Lakeland, Angie De Groot, Brylie Dauparas, Cecelia Ward, Jean Bower, Deanne Palmieri, Gem Eyes, Leela Sennitt, Renae Barber, and Sarah Andrew.”
We look forward to what 2018 will bring for Women in Drinks in Victoria!
