Brian Walsh to discuss the evolution of gender diversity in wine

Women in Drinks South Australia is holding a special event -  “The Evolution of Gender Diversity in the Drinks Industry” - featuring Brian Walsh, Chair of Wine Australia.

He will explore gender diversity within the wine industry and what he sees as the most effective initiatives to drive change for the future.

Walsh boasts a 24-year career at Yalumba, spanning roles of Chief Winemaker, Director of Production and Director of Strategy and Business Development, as well as 20 years working in winemaking and management positions in McLaren Vale. Walsh has previously held roles including President of the South Australian Wine Industry Association, Chair of the South Australian Wine Tourism Advisory Board, Chair of Barossa Winemakers Committee, Chair of the Wine Innovation Cluster, and is currently Independent Chair of Riverland Wine.

Walsh has been a strong supporter of the Australian wine show system and has been both Chairman of Judges at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show and Chair of its Wine Committee. Brian lives in the Barossa and now works as a wine sector consultant.

A Q&A and networking session will follow Walsh's keynote speech. This event is inclusively open to everyone. 


Date: Thursday, October 18, 2018

Time: 4-6pm (optional winery tour avaliable from at 3pm, please arrive by 2.45pm)

Venue: Pernod Ricard Winemakers: 1914 Barossa Valley Way, Rowland Flat (report to reception on arrival)

Dress: Casual Business - those taking the tour should wear long pans, closed toe flat shoes (no high heels) and no sleeveless tops.

Cost: $30/person, includes drinks and light food.

($5 from each ticket will go to the Australian New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG). Tickets are limited, get in quickly to avoid disappointment.)


Women in Drinks is an initiative by The Drinks Association to highlight issues facing women in the workplace, champion opportunities and offer networking events for women working in the drinks industry. The Drinks Association is a not-for-profit organisation that offers everything from industry data to targeted forums and a broad spectrum of events, publications and websites, including Drinks Trade, Drinks Bulletin and Drinks Guide. It works to build a stronger, more informed Australian drinks industry by providing commonly required services.
